What is Right to Information

The Right to Information (RTI) process gives the community greater access to information held by Queensland Government agencies.

Under the Right to Information Act 2009 (Qld) (RTI Act), you can apply:

  • for access to documents held by us
  • to amend your personal information in those documents.

Search for information

Before making an RTI application, check if the information you need is already available online.

If you can’t find what you’re looking for, contact us. We’ll tell you if the information is available, or if you need to make an RTI application to access it.

Please note that Queensland Health receives and manages our RTI applications.

Apply for information

You can make an RTI application for information in any document we hold. Find out more about the Information Access application process.

You can’t use the RTI process to ask for general information or for answers to your questions.

You must pay an application fee when you make an RTI application seeking access to nonpersonal documents. Find out more about the fees and charges.

There is no application fee for making an application for documents containing your personal information. However, you must give evidence of your identity, such as a certified copy of your driver licence.

We may not be able to give you access to all the documents you ask for. This is because some documents may be exempt from release or not in the public interest to release. If we refuse you access to the documents you’ve asked for, you may be able to review our decision. Find out more about RTI review rights.

Amend personal information

You can apply to amend documents containing your personal information if the information is:

  • inaccurate
  • misleading
  • out of date or
  • incomplete

You need to have seen or accessed the documents before you can apply to have them amended. Find out more about amending your personal information.

There is no application fee for this service. However, you must give evidence of your identity, such as a certified copy of your driver licence.
