Creating pathways into peer work
We’re partnering with the Queensland Alliance for Mental Health (QAMH) to deliver the Lived-Living Experience (Peer) Work Placement Project.
The project provides supervised vocational placements across Queensland for students studying the Certificate IV in Mental Health Peer Work.
It is funded through unspent Australian Government funding from the Peer Work Scholarship Program.
Strengthening the peer workforce
In 2024–25, we partnered with the Australian Government to expand, strengthen and upskill the national mental health peer workforce.
The Peer Work Scholarship Program contributed to the Australian Government’s response to the Productivity Commission Inquiry into Mental Health. It also supported efforts to grow and upskill the peer workforce.
Funding was provided for scholarships to support vocational training for peer workers in the mental health and suicide prevention sector. The scholarships supported study of the Certificate IV in Mental Health Peer Work.
In partnership with QAMH, we delivered 178 scholarships to Queensland students over 2 years.
Informing future placement approaches
As well as coordinating placements, the project will gather feedback from scholarship recipients and host organisations about their placement experiences.
These insights will help inform future approaches to peer work placements across Queensland.
They will also help build organisational capability and support the ongoing development and sustainability of Queensland’s Lived-Living Experience (Peer) Workforce.
